Winter Rambles

Posted by [info]przed on 2009.12.11 at 09:18
It's been exactly two weeks and two days since I got the bad news at work. And this is the very first day I haven't been swamped with a crazy amount of stuff to do. My first week I was fighting with my resume, and putting together a budget (still in progress), and taking a Photoshop course that work had agreed to pay for before the axe fell.

This week I've been in non-stop job search seminars, also paid for by the company. And when I haven't been in class, I've been staying up till all hours, tweaking the resume until it is a shiny wonderful thing (I took it to my job coach yesterday and she couldn't find a single thing to improve, yay!), and struggling with stoopid cover letters (I hates them, precious). And then there's the Christmas shopping. We're scaling back a bit, but there will still be Christmas, gosh darn it.

So today I finally get to do the unemployed, watching TV and eating bonbons thing.

Except not really.

Because I've still got three Christmas stories to write.

The Pros one is, blessedly, pretty much done except for the betaing/editing. But that still leaves my UNCLE DTC story, that is two thirds done but has not yet given up its ending. And the Yuletide story, which at the moment consists of a single line and a vague outline swirling about in my head. I shan't be aiming to go much over the 1,000 work minimum for that. (Note to Muse: Do not give me a idea which involves lots of plot and research!) I'm thinking maybe today is a good day to watch the source for that.

Hope you're all well and happy in LJ land, and those of you who've had winter storms the last few days are nicely dug out.

Thanks to everyone who sent cookie and other virtual Christmas gifties earlier in the week. You're all awesome. (I only got a few sent out before they revoked the free cookies, but know that I was thinking of you all.)

Greenheart has uploaded a clip where Martin presents Bill Kenwright with an award in 2003.
Great speeches from both men.

The link to this is here on my LJ.

The Fourth Bloke (also known in pic 17 as The Third Man... *g*) - who is he? What's his story? Does anyone know?

And here he is...

Also - from one pic to seventeen pics! Yeay! *g*

You dont know how amusing it is hearing a mobile phone go off with the Pros theme ringing and each and every one of us reaching for our phone!!!!

I have ironed and packed. Phone is charged. Legs etc are shaved (just in case hahahaha). Sorted!

Just having a couple of glasses of vino before going to bedski.

This & That

Hello. I've been away from the net the last few days with real life stuff and working on my SPN fic. I'm trying to get caught up today. So, first off, let me say a great big thank you to [info]gilda_elise, [info]mara_snh, [info]jojosimco, [info]minki_moira, and [info]gblvr for the generous virtual presents. You guys are terrific!

I hadn't realized the apparent kerfluffle over the free-yet-not-supposed-to-be-free snowflake cookies until [info]callistosh65 clued me in. I'd initially sent off a bunch of cookies to people (who wouldn't?--they were free!), but still had several deserving folk on my list. Unfortunately, with Live Journal now having gotten wise and charging, I can't afford non-free virtual gifts. So I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to play Santa any longer. Please know this in no way is an indication of my fondness. It's strictly a matter of finance.

What I can do, however. I wish people Happy Birthday. With that in mind, let's give it up for [info]windrain10 , whose special day is today. Happy birthday, hon! :-)

Pros mentioned in online BBC article

Posted by [info]erushi in [info]the_safehouse on 2009.12.10 at 14:57
Just a head's up. Pros was mentioned in an online BBC news article today as part of a larger article dealing with TV episodes which weren't aired. It's actually pretty interesting, placing the 'Klansman' episode in its social context, offering a couple of possible reasons why LWT had decided against showing it, and quoting Clemens on how he had felt about it.

I've extracted the relevant section under cut:

For the curious, the full article may be found here.

Must say I find it quite interesting that they had only recently yet again decided not to broadcast it. Given the fact that the average TV viewer today is supposedly 'more informed', surely there wouldn't have been too much of a fuss?

Again I wasn't going to do a PhotoShoot Snap today, but yet again everything's going wrong that can go wrong, so... I need the good Pros!

Also, [info]magenta_blue rather brilliantly requested The One From Purging, and since they all look so gorgeous then I think that's an excellent idea... *g* So to start with...

I'm pretty sure that's Purging, isn't it? Bodie's hair! *g* Doyle's hair... *happy sigh* I know there's the hug pics too, but I don't have them here at work - if someone'll post them to comments before 6pm I'll put them up! And I think there's loads from this PhotoShoot, so...

... any more for anymore? *g*

ETA - and does anyone know the story behind The Fourth Bloke? (see under cut!) *vbg*

ETA - Okay, I'll start us off in a table - with six pics from Purging! )

Going back a couple of weeks, look what I found over at the brilliant CI5 Addict!

I've added it to The One From Mixed Doubles - any more always welcome...

Now, where was I... PhotoShoot Snap VI... *g*

ETA -

Two! Another two! Both from the same place - thank you [info]agentxpndble for posting those pics to your website! *vbg*

Scenes from the Edge - Kate MacLean
Orignally published in Unprofessional Conduct 5 through Gryphon Press

He'd always known, hadn't he, what the danger was for him. Known instinctively deep down, that if he ever really let himself fall -- really love someone completely -- he would lose it all. His independence, his dignity, his apartness, his sense of self-preservation. If he ever really let himself love, he wouldn't be able to hold anything back; he'd just ... give himself away. He'd known that.

When I joined Pros Lit way back when and asked for reading recs, one name that frequently cropped up -- and seemed to stir passions -- was that of Kate MacLean. Naturally I was curious and headed over to the CA where I found…Telling Marge. It was a well-written little story but I didn’t see what the fuss was about. Why was Katie MacLean hated and feared in some quarters -- and adored in others?

Find out why )
